The Scosche Magic mount is a magnetic mounting system for mounting electronic devices in your vehicle. They come in several different forms but i’ll be reviewing the dash mount version. All the other versions of the mount use the same mounting base and plates so the results should be universal as far as how well the magnetic system works.
I was searching for a good dash mount to use for driving, I needed something easy to use because with jobs like Uber Eats and Post Mates delivering you are constantly grabbing and using your phone. My phone is a Galaxy S 6 with a pretty thick Otterbox case, I was looking at the clamping style mounts and trying to find one that would be easy to use and also not break with constant, daily use. That’s when the Scosche Magic Mount caught my eye. I was a little skeptical at first thinking, “How Good Could This Really Be?” but I decided to go for it and bought it for $19.99 at Walmart.
I got home and couldn’t wait to try it. I spent some time trying different spots out before finally revealing the tape and sticking it to my car. (You only get one chance so choose wisely). I chose a spot that would be easy to view an access, wouldn’t block my AC and could easily be plugged into the charger without having a cord running across my dashboard or blocking me from shifting.
The magic mount works by placing a metal plate either on your phone or on your case. The metal plate has a sticky tape side that you can stick to the back of your phone or your case. I didn’t remove the tape and just stuck it inside my case. I was a little worried because the Otter Box case I have on my phone was really thick, I wasn’t sure if it would hold good enough but I went out to my car to try it out and sure enough the phone stuck there. It was nice and solid and held it’s position. Now the big Test. Will it hold up under driving conditions or will the phone fall off or tip sideways. On to the road we go!
I drove around town for a bit and then headed onto the freeway to do a night of deliveries in the city of Orange (because that’s were the tips are at)
I was amazed by the way this mount was living up to it’s name, driving around the city for 3 hours and spending about 45 minutes of that on the bumpy 55 and 91 freeways the phone held it’s position and stayed in place. The ease of use was everything that I asked for. The phone comes right off and snaps right back on with little to no effort whatsoever. I felt that I had to write a post about it because as a driver, this is one of the most useful tools you could have, and at a reasonable price it’s something everyone can have.
The mounts come in 4 different varieties and i’m sure they will all work just as well as the one that I purchased so don’t hesitate to try another style if that suits your needs better. I’ll show you the different styles and also give you a link to get it on amazon because I found Amazon to have it for the best price.
If you get one then please comment and share your opinion, I’m sure you’ll feel the same way I do about this dash mount.
